Amandus: rustic rebel or pirate prince? (2001)

Abstract The Amandus who is identified as one of the two leaders of the rebellious Bagaudae c.286 may only have led a raiding party of Saxon pirates against Gaul at approximately the same time, and have had nothing really to do with the Bagaudae. He may, therefore, be identifiable, with the homonymous leader of Licinius' fleet against Constantine in 324.
